What is there
The council's listing names one facility, a rest hut (pondok rehat). It mentions no toilets, changing rooms or stalls, and the newer Discover Kuantan page calls it smaller than other hot spring destinations. Entry is free and the council lists it as open 24 hours. The council's own text says the pool was popular with residents "suatu ketika dahulu" (at one time), which suggests it sees few visitors now.
The only temperature on record is 41°C, from the Geological Survey's 1997 inventory of Peninsular hot springs (as listed in a 2017 USM thesis). That is about the heat of a hot bath at home. No water analysis has been published for this spring, so its mineral content is unknown. Do not drink the water.
Combine it with
The spring is on the Sungai Jin route to Rainbow Waterfall, which needs a 4WD. The council's Discover Kuantan site lists the waterfall and Bukit Panorama as the nearby attractions. Back in town, the Sungai Lembing Museum, opened in 2001, covers the tin mines that built the place. There are no other hot springs near Kuantan; the closest ones on this site are around Bentong, such as Bentong Public Hot Spring, several hours west.
Getting there
Sungai Lembing is about 42 km north-west of Kuantan by road. The hot spring is at Sungai Jin, about 6.5 km from the town centre, on the track towards Air Terjun Pelangi. Kuantan City Council says the route needs a four-wheel-drive vehicle, especially when the track is in poor condition, so do not attempt it in a normal car after rain. Without your own 4WD, the local modified 4WD "teksi" that carry waterfall visitors from town to the Lubuk Beruk campsite are the practical way in; ask the driver about stopping at the spring. There is no public transport to the site.
Before you go
- If you take a 4WD teksi to Rainbow Waterfall, ask the driver to stop at the spring on the way back to town; both are on the Sungai Jin track.
- Bring a towel, drinking water and a rubbish bag: the only listed facility is a rest hut, so there is nowhere to change or buy anything.
- Skip the track after heavy rain; the council says it needs 4WD even in normal conditions.
- Do not drink the spring water. No analysis of it has been published.
