The hot springs and caves
The shared wellness area has geothermal hot spring dipping pools, a thermal steam cave, an ice bath, a meditation cave, a crystal cave, a garra rufa fish pool, a freeform swimming pool and a gym. The steam cave gets very hot: keep visits short, drink water and leave if you feel unwell.
The resort does not publish the temperature of its dipping pools. The 65°C figure is for the spring at the surface, not the pools you sit in. We found no published water chemistry for the site, so the mineral type is unknown.
Day pass for non-guests
You do not need to stay overnight. The Banjaran Day Pass costs RM350 nett per person and runs 10am–7pm daily. It is open only to people who are not staying at the resort, aged 12 and over, and must be booked in advance, subject to availability. A July 2026 listing described the resort as guests-only, but day-pass visitors reviewing it on Google Maps in September and October 2026 paid RM350 with the RM150 voucher, so the pass is still sold.
The pass includes:
- use of the hot spring pools, steam cave, ice bath, caves, fish pool, swimming pool and gym
- a RM150 nett voucher for any full-priced spa treatment or a meal at Pomelo, used the same day
- a locker, bathrobe, towel and showers
Bring your own swimwear. Any spending above the RM150 voucher is paid when you leave.
An October 2026 day-pass visitor was taken by buggy to the hot spring reception, given a locker with a towel, robe and slippers, and walked round the caves and pools by a staff member before being left to explore. Visitors in September and October 2026 both said six hours went easily.
Staying overnight
The 44 villas come in five types: Garden, Water, Lake, Grand Garden and Royal. The Water, Garden and Grand Garden pool villas each have a private pool and a geothermal hot spring whirlpool; the Lake pool villa has a private plunge pool and hot tub. A July 2026 listing put rates from about RM1,500 a night. Check-in is at 3pm and check-out at noon.
September 2026 reviews add a few things worth knowing: villa guests get free entry to Lost World of Tambun, construction just outside the resort could be heard during the day, and one guest found their villa's hot dipping pool dirty. The resort replied that villa dipping pools run on unfiltered spring water, so dark mineral residue and leaves can collect.
Food and spa
Jeff's Cellar is a restaurant and bar set in a cavern carved into the limestone hill. Pomelo serves Asian and international food all day, and On the Rocks is a lakeside drinks spot. Spa treatments draw on Ayurvedic and traditional Malaysian practice.
Is it worth it
Compared with the Lost World of Tambun night park next door (RM105 with MyKad), the day pass costs more than three times as much, though RM150 comes back as a voucher. You get far fewer people, the steam cave and caves, and no children under 12. For a cheap outdoor soak near Ipoh, Lubuk Timah costs RM5.
Getting there
Address: No. 1, Persiaran Lagun Sunway 3, Sunway City Ipoh, 31150 Ipoh, Perak.
By car: about 15 minutes from central Ipoh. From KL it is about 200 km, roughly 2 hours on the North-South Expressway; exit at junction 138 and follow the Sunway City signs. Parking is free on site.
By air or train: Sultan Azlan Shah Airport is about 20 minutes away by road, and Ipoh railway station about 12 km. No public transport reaches the resort, so take a taxi or Grab. The resort's only listed transfer is a private charter from the Klang Valley for Jeff's Cellar diners.
Before you go
- Book the day pass ahead by phone (+605 210 7777) or email (tbhr.wellness@sunwayhotels.com); walk-ins are not guaranteed.
- Plan on about six hours: September and October 2026 day-pass visitors said that was easy to fill.
- Plan how to use the RM150 voucher: it only covers full-priced spa treatments or food at Pomelo, and expires the same day.
- Bring swimwear; robes, towels and lockers are provided.
- Limit steam cave sessions and drink water between rounds.
- Leave children under 12 out of the plan: they are not admitted on day passes or stays.
