What to expect at the pools
Visitor reviews from 2024 and early 2025, written before the operator change, describe several hot and cold pools at different temperatures, a children's section with cooler water and play structures, and slides in the water-play area. One January 2025 review compared the hot section to a Japanese bathhouse and mentioned a separate hot shower area for women.
A 2013 report in The Star described the kaburi-yu, a Japanese-style pour-over bath where you scoop water over yourself, at about 49°C. Temperatures for the other pools have not been published, and we found no water chemistry analysis, so the mineral content is unknown.
Facilities and condition
Earlier reviews mentioned free parking, free picnic huts and tables on a first-come basis, toilets, a prayer room, food stalls and a small mini market. Outside food was allowed and there was no time limit. Entry was last reported in February 2024, under the previous operator, at RM12 for adults and RM8 for children.
Reviews from December 2024 and January 2025 were mixed. One December 2024 visitor found several pools closed, lizard droppings on the grounds and smelly toilets; January 2025 reviewers marked it down for mould and the state of the changing rooms. These reviews predate the closure; we have seen no reports from inside the site since early 2025.
The 2024 and 2025 closures
On 8 June 2024 the pool was shut for 14 days after a leptospirosis cluster. Of 78 students, teachers and parents on a school water-therapy programme on 5 June, 27 fell ill, and reported cases reached 33 by 12 June. The State Health Department told the operator to clean the site, change pool water on a schedule and keep rats out.
MPHTJ then ended the operator's contract on 10 January 2025. The council said it had issued breach notices since October 2023 over safety, public health and cleanliness. The state exco in charge said the pool was not closing for good, only changing operators.
Is it open now?
No, as of September 2026. A Google Maps pin at the site is now titled "Air Panas Bemban Jasin Ditutup Sepenuhnya" (fully closed). A March 2026 reviewer there wrote that it is permanently closed, and a September 2026 visitor said they travelled a long way only to find it had been shut for a long time, and asked the council to reopen it.
In January 2025 the state exco said the site was being upgraded and would keep operating under a new operator, without naming one or giving a date. We found no dated report naming the new operator or confirming a reopening. Tourism Melaka's undated listing still gives the old opening hours shown on this page. We have marked it temporarily closed because the council has not announced a permanent closure, but treat it as shut until there is news of a reopening.
Getting there
The pools are at Kampung Air Panas, 77200 Bemban, Jasin. Tourism Melaka's Waze and Google Maps links point to 2.2911, 102.3767; navigate to those coordinates rather than searching by name. Map listings for the site now show it as closed.
Parking was free in 2024. We could not confirm a public bus route to the pools, so driving or e-hailing from Melaka city is the realistic option. Tourism Melaka suggests allowing about 1.5 hours on site.
Before you go
- Don't drive out on spec: visitors in March and September 2026 found it closed. Call +606 521 0369 or check the newest Google reviews for news of a reopening.
- The kaburi-yu was about 49°C when The Star measured it. Pour a little over your arms and legs first before tipping a full scoop over your shoulders.
- Leptospirosis spreads through water contaminated with rat urine. Cover cuts with waterproof plasters, don't swallow pool water, and tell your doctor about the visit if you get a fever afterwards.
- Bring a towel and slippers. Changing rooms were in poor shape in early 2025 reviews.
- If Jasin is shut, the nearest alternatives in Melaka are Gadek and Cherana Putih.
