What is known
The spring appears as "Kg. Sira, Gerik" at 65°C in the hot spring list compiled by Samsudin and colleagues (1997), reproduced in Mohd Hariri Arifin's 2017 USM PhD thesis. Arifin's distribution map, republished in Warta Geologi in 2022, plots it as spring no. 9, "Kampung Sira", east of the separate Kampung Air Panas spring (no. 10). No water chemistry has been published for it that we could find.
Which Sira?
The map point falls within a few kilometres of the village OpenStreetMap names Kampung Sira Panas, about 10 km east of Gerik in a straight line, so that is where our pin sits. Don't mix it up with Sungai Sira Panas, a stream that runs through Kampung Air Panas south-west of Gerik: that is where the 45°C Kampung Air Panas Hot Spring, Gerik is, not this one. Matching the record to Kampung Sira Panas is our reading of a small-scale map, not a surveyed point, and the pin marks the village, not the spring.
What we don't know
We could not confirm whether there is any pool, path or shelter, whether the spring is on private, Orang Asli or forest land, or whether it still flows at the same temperature. There is no published fee, owner or opening time.
Safety
Water at 65°C can scald skin within seconds. If you do find the spring, keep children back from the source and don't step into any outflow you haven't tested.
Getting there
Start from Gerik, at the junction of Federal Route 4 (the East-West Highway) and Federal Route 76. Kampung Sira Panas is about 10 km east of Gerik in a straight line; use a map app for the road route to the village. Beyond the village, the spring's position is unknown, so ask residents. There is no public transport.
Before you go
- Ask in Kampung Sira Panas before setting out; nobody has published directions to the spring itself.
- If someone in Gerik sends you to Kampung Air Panas, that is the other, 45°C spring. Check which one they mean.
- The recorded 65°C is hot enough to scald. Don't put hands or feet into the source.
- Carry water and tell someone where you are going if you head into forest or plantation land.
- Respect village and Orang Asli land; get permission before crossing it.
Questions people ask
How hot is Kampung Sira Panas Hot Spring?
It was recorded at 65°C in a 1997 geological survey. No newer reading has been published.
Can you bathe at Kampung Sira Panas Hot Spring?
We found no evidence of a bathing pool or any facilities. Treat it as a geological record, not a soaking spot.
Is Kampung Sira Panas Hot Spring the same as the Kampung Air Panas spring in Gerik?
No. The 1997 survey lists them separately: Kampung Air Panas at 45°C and Kampung Sira at 65°C. The two villages are about 13 km apart, although the stream in Kampung Air Panas is also called Sungai Sira Panas.
