The spring most people call Dusun Tua Hot Spring is the Batu 16 site on Jalan Hulu Langat. It sits on private land behind the wooden Surau Al-Muttaqin Kariah Dusun Tua. Hot water is piped into a long tiled basin, split by a wall into men's and women's sections. You bathe by scooping water over yourself. You do not get in. Entry is free, and a donation box pays for the toilets and changing rooms.

The water reaches the basin at about 60°C, far too hot to sit in. For a soak, go to Sungai Serai or Serai Bamboo further down the same road.

What to expect

The basin is a rectangular tiled trough fed by a pipe from the spring. A wall about six feet high divides the men's end from the women's end, and both sides share the same water. The posted rules are no smoking, no getting into the pool, use a scoop or bucket, and stay covered. One travel writer found the water clean and clear, and a little less hot than at Sungai Serai once it reaches the basin. Around ten small wakaf huts give you somewhere to leave your things and sit in the shade.

Google reviews from 2026 match this. A February 2026 visitor found the water scalding hot, the toilets clean and stocked with water, and the shaded hut pleasant but airless on a hot afternoon, with no fan. In May 2026 another found the drains mossy and the changing room smelly, but still fine for a free bath.

How hot

A 2019 UKM study (Simon et al.) measured 60.5°C in the water piped from the spring to this basin, which the paper calls the Batu 16 hot spring, and an earlier 2013 study recorded 67.9°C at the same site. The spring's own outlet was not visible to the researchers. Let the water cool in your bucket for a moment before you pour, especially for children.

The water

The Batu 16 water is weakly alkaline (pH about 8.4). Of the nine sampling points in the Hulu Langat study, it had the most silicon (about 45 mg/L) and lithium. It also had the most arsenic, about 0.019 mg/L, which is above the WHO limit for drinking water, so do not drink it. The study did not test for sulphur.

Which spring is "Dusun Tua"?

Two more spring sites are close by, and they are the source of the higher and lower figures you may see quoted for "Dusun Tua". Inside the IKTBN Dusun Tua youth training institute (formerly IKBN) there are four springs measured at 70.4 to 74°C at the outlet, the hottest in the Hulu Langat cluster. One of them flows into the Sungai Langat. The campus is a government site and you need permission to enter. Just outside the institute, a small concrete public pool (listed by Tourism Selangor as the MPKK Dusun Tua hot spring) was free to use when it was studied in 2019, at 40.5°C (36.1°C in 2013). The 2019 paper's site descriptions call this small pool Dusun Tua and the surau site Batu 16, although its location table muddles the labels, and most travel sites use Dusun Tua for the surau site. We could not confirm the current state of the small pool.

All of these springs, along with Sungai Serai, form geosite G16 of the Gombak-Hulu Langat geopark. Tourism Selangor says the water is surface water heated as it moves along fractures in the Bukit Tinggi fault zone.

Hours, crowds and status

Tourism Selangor and Malaysia Traveller list the hours as 7.30am–7.30pm daily. Google reviews from May to July 2026 describe free bathing as usual, although one visitor in April 2026 found the fence locked, so allow for the odd closure. A 2026 online guide says it is busiest on weekend afternoons with local families.

Getting there

From Kuala Lumpur, take Jalan Hulu Langat (B52) past Kampung Sungai Serai to the Batu 16 marker at Dusun Tua. The spring is behind Surau Al-Muttaqin Kariah Dusun Tua, beside a school and a bus stop. GPS: 3.13925, 101.83616. Expect 45 to 60 minutes from central KL, depending on traffic. Parking is limited: 2026 reviewers parked by the school and bus stop or on the roadside, and warn that cars drive fast along this stretch. No direct bus or rail serves Batu 16, so drive or take an e-hailing ride.

Before you go

  • Bring your own scoop or small bucket, plus a towel and a change of clothes. Nothing is rented out.
  • Dress modestly when you arrive and leave. The site is on surau land and the rules ask you to stay covered.
  • Don't touch the water near the source. It comes out at 60°C or hotter.
  • Let a bucket of water cool for a moment before pouring it over children.
  • Don't drink the water. A 2019 study found more arsenic here than at the other Hulu Langat springs, above the WHO drinking-water limit.
  • Go in the morning. A February 2026 visitor found the hut hot and still at 4pm, and weekend afternoons are the busiest time.
  • Take care parking on the roadside. Spaces are few and traffic on Jalan Hulu Langat is fast.
