The pools
There are three communal outdoor pools: hot, medium and cool, plus a shallow children's pool. The hot pool is fed straight from the spring, and the cool pool is the one for swimming and paddling. A 2026 SAYS listing also describes a natural spring well where people scoop water to pour over themselves.
UiTM researchers measured the water at 51.7°C and 50.6°C at two sampling points here in 2013. No temperatures are published for the individual pools. The spring vent itself is too hot to touch, so stay out of the source area and test the hot pool with a hand before getting in.
What's in the water
The same UiTM study gives the best lab data we found. The water is close to neutral (pH 7.6) and dominated by sodium (about 40–53 mg/L), with little calcium (2–5 mg/L), chloride at 14–21 mg/L and total dissolved solids around 310 mg/L. Total sulphur measured 2–12 mg/L, but sulphate was under 1 mg/L. The researchers rated Selangor's hot spring water fine for bathing but not fit to drink.
Facilities
The council refurbished the site in 2015 and added gazebos, shelters, walkways and landscaped gardens. There are basic changing rooms and toilets; older reviews describe their cleanliness as hit and miss, while visitors in mid-2026 found the site clean and the facilities well kept. One June 2026 visitor met the caretaker who looks after the pools. Visit Selangor lists free parking, while another guide mentions a RM1 parking charge. An August 2026 reviewer said the car park fits cars and motorcycles only, so vans and buses have to park outside and walk in. The same reviewer mentions food and drink stalls.
A July 2026 visitor gave RM10 for the private hot spring pools, alongside the RM3 public entry. An older guide listed private pool rooms at about RM60 an hour. We could not confirm whether the private pools belong to the council site or to Cholo Cholo, the privately run park right next door, which does rent private pools.
Hours, closures and crowds
Sources disagree, so call MPHS before a long drive. The Google Maps listing (October 2026) gives 7am–10pm Tuesday to Sunday, with a Friday break 12pm–2.30pm, and closed on Mondays. Two SAYS listings from July 2026 give 7am–10pm daily. Older listings say it is open 24 hours but closed every Thursday for pool cleaning. A reader reported the site closed in October 2023; Google reviews through September and October 2026 show it operating again.
Weekend evenings are the busiest time. Weekday mornings are quieter.
Combine it with
The scenic B66 back road from Batang Kali climbs to Genting Highlands, or you can carry on to Fraser's Hill and Chiling Waterfalls. In fruit season, look out for roadside stalls from the Hulu Tamu orchards on the way in. For hotter tubs and private pools, Cholo Cholo Hot Springs is right next door.
Getting there
By car from KL (about 1 hour): take Federal Route 1 north and turn right into Batang Kali. At the traffic lights, turn left towards Kampung Kuantan on the B114. About 1 km past Kampung Kuantan, take the right fork signposted to Kem Ulu Tamu. The spring is about 7 km from Batang Kali town. Signposts cover most of the route, but it is easy to miss a turn.
Public transport: there is no direct bus. Take the KTM Komuter to Batang Kali, then a taxi or e-hailing car for the last 15 minutes.
Mobile signal is weak or absent near the pools, so download offline maps first.
Before you go
- Call MPHS on +603 6064 1331 before visiting, especially on a Monday or Thursday, since hours differ between sources. Don't use the mobile number on the Google listing: an August 2026 reviewer says it now belongs to someone else.
- Bring your own towel and toiletries; no towel rental is listed at the council site.
- Don't approach the spring vent; it is too hot to touch. Test the hot pool with your hand first.
- Go on a weekday morning for a quieter soak; weekend evenings get crowded.
- Download offline maps before leaving Batang Kali, as signal near the pools is poor.
- Don't drink the spring water. Lab tests rate it fit for bathing only.
