Hulu Yam Hot Spring (Sungai Air Panas) sits on a stream still called Sungai Air Panas (hot water river) on the 1966 national survey map, in oil palm estate land east of Hulu Yam Bharu. UiTM researchers sampled it in 2013 and recorded 55.8°C, one of the hotter readings in Selangor.

We found no public pool, signage, operator or recent visitor reports. The mapped spring lies about 3 km east of Hulu Yam Bharu among estate tracks, some mapped as mud for farm vehicles only, so treat it as private land and ask before going in.

What we know

The 2013 UiTM study measured the water at 55.8°C, hot enough to scald, with a near-neutral pH of 7.45. Like other Selangor springs it is sodium-dominated (about 44–52 mg/L), with calcium around 6 mg/L, chloride about 12 mg/L, total sulphur about 10–11 mg/L and very little sulphate (0.19 mg/L). Total dissolved solids were 321 mg/L. The researchers rated the region's spring water suitable for bathing but not for drinking.

OpenStreetMap marks a spring point and the Sungai Air Panas stream among estate tracks, some tagged as mud tracks for farm vehicles only.

What we don't know

We could not confirm who owns the land, whether there is any pool, whether visitors are allowed in, or the state of the tracks after rain. Treat it as private estate land and ask before entering.

We also could not confirm whether 2K Hotspring Campsite, a campsite with spring-fed hot pools also in oil palm estate land off Jalan Kampung Ulu Kalong, draws on this source.

Getting there

The mapped spring lies about 3 km east of Hulu Yam Bharu town, inside oil palm estate land reached by unpaved estate tracks; Jalan Kampung Ulu Kalong runs out from town towards the area. Some tracks are mapped as mud, for farm vehicles only. There is no public transport, parking or signage that we know of, and the land is likely private, so ask locally before going in.

Before you go

  • Don't touch the water at the source: it was measured at 55.8°C, hot enough to scald.
  • Ask permission in Hulu Yam Bharu before entering estate land.
  • Avoid the estate tracks after heavy rain; some are mapped as mud.
  • For an actual soak, go to Hulu Tamu or Cholo Cholo, about 4.5 km north in a straight line and further by road.
