Tok Bok Hot Spring is the public hot spring park of Machang district, at Kampung Rengas in Labok, about 20 km from Machang town on the Tok Bok road towards Selising. Geological studies call it the Labok or Rengas hot spring. The state tourism office says the water is hotter than at Kelantan's other springs, and the Geological Survey's 1997 inventory recorded 41°C at Kampung Labok.

Majlis Daerah Machang runs it as a family recreation park with soaking pools, a swimming pool with a water chute, a playground, a restaurant and village-style chalets. It suits families from Kota Bharu and Machang looking for a cheap soak more than travellers looking for scenery. It closed for a while for repairs, but Google Maps reviews from June to October 2026 show it open again, with a children's water play area.

Current status

The park's official Facebook page once posted that a temporary closure was extended so a contractor could finish repair works. That closure is over: visitors reviewed the pools on Google Maps every month from June to October 2026, and a July 2026 reviewer said the place looked better after the renovation.

History

The spring started as a jet of hot water in a rice field. According to Malaysia Aktif, the Penggawa of Labok, Mohd Taib Ibrahim, found it and developed the site in the early 1950s. The state government took it over in the 1980s, and Majlis Daerah Machang manages it today. Tok Bok was also the subject of a geological heritage study in 2001 (Tanot Unjah et al.).

The pools

The only published temperature is 41°C, from the 1997 Geological Survey inventory for Kampung Labok, Machang: about the heat of a hot bath at home. Machang district's other hot spring, at Kampung Mata Ayer, is much cooler at 27°C in the same inventory. No water chemistry has been published. A pool worker quoted in 2025 said locals use the water for joint pain and skin problems; that is local belief, not a tested claim.

Cozyberries describes two hot pools with separate sides for men and women. Reviews are mixed on upkeep. A 2019 Tripadvisor reviewer found the water below knee depth and the pool crowded and dirty, and a December 2025 reviewer asked for more regular cleaning. In mid-2026, Google Maps reviewers liked the hot pool for a quiet adult soak, but one in July 2026 found the toilets dirty, no covered place to change, and the grounds muddy after rain.

Facilities

Malaysia Aktif lists ample parking, a swimming pool, a children's playground, a restaurant, a sepak takraw court and village-style chalets (inap desa) at modest prices. A March 2026 guide from Bateriku also mentions a water chute and event facilities, and an August 2026 visitor describes a small water park for children that is included in the entry ticket. Chalet rates are not published; ask the council.

Fees and hours

Google Maps reviewers in July and August 2026 paid RM7 for adults and RM5 for children, covering both the hot pools and the children's water park. That is up from RM3 for children in March 2025. The Google Maps listing and an August 2026 visitor give 7am–11pm daily for 2026, which replaces the older listings (7am–midnight from the council, 8am–7pm on Tripadvisor). Cozyberries recommends going at night when it is cooler.

Forest walks nearby

Majlis Daerah Machang also manages Hutan Lipur Bukit Bakar (8am–6pm) and Bukit Kepang (7am–7pm) for walks.

Getting there

The park is at Kolam Air Panas Tok Bok, Kampung Rengas, 18500 Machang; search "Tok Bok Hot Springs" on Google Maps. From Machang town, take the Tok Bok state road towards Selising (Pasir Puteh) for about 20 km; Bateriku places it between Pulai Chondong and Machang. There is plenty of parking at the site. No regular public transport is documented, so drive or take a taxi or e-hailing car from Machang or Kota Bharu.

Before you go

  • Call Majlis Daerah Machang on 09-975 1076 if you are coming from far; the Google Maps listing also gives 010-225 1943.
  • Go early on a weekday: reviewers in 2019, 2025 and July 2026 complained about pool or toilet cleanliness.
  • Bring modest swimwear; the men's and women's pools are separate.
  • For an evening soak, arrive well before the 11pm closing time listed for 2026.
  • Bring cash for entry and the restaurant.
  • Bring your own towel and a bag for wet clothes: a July 2026 reviewer found nowhere covered to change.
